2026 is just around the corner. Time to find the right mower! A seasoned expert will show you what really matters and how to find the model that perfectly suits your needs and makes sense price-wise. With cable or without, RTK version or not? What's behind all those technical buzzwords from the brands? No worries, this mower test explains step by step how to recognize the most important parameters of a mower. Even absolute beginners can manage that easily.

Additionally, this lawn mower review includes an objective comparison of the latest models from various manufacturers. I have placed the data side by side and checked who truly delivers in 2025. The result: the well-deserved title for the Lawn Mower of the Year.

How to Choose the Right Lawn Mower

I have found that many so-called lawn mower tests online are little more than nicely packaged lists. A few models from well-known brands are simply lined up, with a few lines of description, and that's it. No comparison, no real data, no practical experience. In the end, consumers often know just as little as before.

If you, as an ordinary buyer, really want to find the right lawn mower, you basically just need to answer a few simple questions.

1. How large is your lawn area?

The maximum recommended mowing area is usually the most important parameter that brands use to distinguish their various model ranges. It also generally determines the price level. According to the Garden Industry Association (IVG) and real estate statistics, the average lawn area of a townhouse in Germany is about 100 to 300 square meters. In a suburban single-family home, it is usually 300 to 800 square meters, while in a country house, it is often between 800 and 2,000 square meters.

2. What does your garden terrain look like?

In the technical data, you will find information about the maximum gradient and the maximum gradient in the edge area. If your lawn is completely flat, you can safely ignore these values. If not, you should pay attention to higher values. The steeper the specified gradients, the better the mowing robot handles slopes without slipping or getting stuck and desperately calling for help.

3. Wired or cordless?

This is a point that many underestimate. Wired mowing robots must be connected to a power source, running continuously on electricity, and are generally more affordable. Cordless models, on the other hand, work independently. You hardly need to worry about battery life, as modern devices automatically return to the charging station. They are more expensive but technologically on a completely different level. Personally, I lean towards the convenient type and would clearly choose the cordless option.

4. Is an RTK mowing robot worth it?

Models with RTK technology (Real-Time Kinematic) use satellite and base station signals to plan the route centimeter-accurately. They don't require boundary wires, and the mowing accuracy is impressive. Models without RTK work with physical or virtual boundaries and are significantly less precise, with possible deviations of up to three meters. In short: An RTK mowing robot is more comfortable and precise. If your budget allows, it is definitely a worthwhile choice.

We're soon in the year 2026, and I think even we Germans can afford to be a bit bolder when it comes to new technology. A cordless mowing robot with RTK navigation is an excellent starting point. Choose one that suits your lawn area and terrain conditions. Of course, the budget also plays a role, as do the service and innovations of the respective manufacturers.

In the next section, we'll look at the most exciting models of the year, including the Navimow i Series, in direct comparison. I've measured, tested, and evaluated to find out who truly deserves the title Mowing Robot of the Year.

Top 1. Segway Navimow i105 Mowing Robot

The Segway Navimow i105 is the mowing robot with the best price-performance ratio in my test. It can cover a maximum lawn area of 600 square meters, easily meeting the needs of most German households. Thanks to its precise RTK navigation, you don't need to lay any cables, as the Navimow plans its route automatically and mows with centimeter precision.

According to the manufacturer, the device can handle slopes of up to 30 percent. That's solid mid-range. However, what particularly impressed me is the VisionFence-image obstacle avoidance function. This technology recognizes over 150 objects and reliably avoids them. This not only protects furniture but also pets and small garden animals. With only 58 decibels, it works quietly, weighs a light 10.9 kilograms, and is protected against dust and rain according to IP66 standards.

Via the app, you can individually set mowing zones, times, and cutting heights. Alexa and Google Home are also supported, so the Navimow can be effortlessly integrated into a smart home.

Top 2. Kress RTKⁿ KR160E Mower Robot

Among cordless mowers with RTK technology, the Kress RTKⁿ KR160E is a good, though not entirely affordable, choice. It is particularly suitable for households with uneven or hilly terrain. The large wheels can handle slopes of up to 40 percent, and its robust design makes it a true off-road type.

Equipped with a 4-Ah-20V battery and a cutting width of 20 centimeters, the KR160E offers higher theoretical mowing performance than many competitors. The trade-off is slightly louder operation at 59 decibels and a weight of 12 kilograms. In terms of protection level, the model reaches IPX5, meaning it is splash-proof but not dustproof.

If you're looking for a powerful, visually appealing mower robot with strong propulsion, the KR160E is a good choice. The price is its main drawback. Without obstacle avoidance system (OAS), it costs 1199 euros, while with OAS it's about 300 euros more. This places it almost twice as expensive as the Segway Navimow.

Top 3. Yard Force NX 60i Mähroboter

The Yard Force NX 60i is also a cordless mower with a maximum coverage area of 600 square meters. It can handle slopes up to 40 percent and is particularly suitable for gardens with uneven terrain when the budget is limited.

With a cutting height of 20 to 60 millimeters, a cutting width of 180 millimeters, and a 28V-2.0-Ah battery, the NX 60i delivers solid results, even on complex terrain. However, there's a catch: it doesn't offer app control and therefore doesn't belong to the category of "Smart Mowers."

If you're simply looking for a robust, durable model and enjoy the charming look of Yard Force, then the NX 60i is a reasonable choice for everyday use.

Top 4. Ecovacs GOAT O800 RTK

If you need more area and stronger performance, the Ecovacs GOAT O800 RTK might be interesting. It mows up to 800 square meters and offers an impressive cutting width of 22 centimeters as well as a variable cutting height between 30 and 80 millimeters. With slopes up to 45 percent, it plays in the top tier of its class.

However, its weak point lies in the power supply. The 4 Ah and 18 Volt battery is weaker than that of the competition, which leads to more frequent charging breaks. Under heavy use, this can significantly slow down workflow.

The GOAT O800 RTK is also not a bargain in terms of price. The base model costs around 899 euros, and with the garage, the total price comes to about 1029 euros. However, if you have a larger, demanding lawn area and are not bothered by regular charging, this lawn mower is certainly a worthwhile investment.

Top 5. PARKSIDE PAMR 1000 A1 Mähroboter

The PARKSIDE PAMR 1000 A1 stands out significantly from the previous candidates, as it is a corded mowing robot. For those who prefer to keep mowing in their own hands and pay attention to the price-performance ratio, this is an interesting option.

With a maximum coverage area of 1,000 square meters, a cutting height of 25 to 60 millimeters, and a cutting width of 22 centimeters, it delivers solid performance. The 4Ah-20V battery ensures stable power. This lawn mower can actually drive and mow cleanly on grass areas with a slope of up to 47 percent. You can conveniently operate it alongside, which makes the handling remarkably flexible and pleasant.

Compared to wireless RTK models, the price is almost half as high. For those who prefer to get hands-on and avoid high-tech, the PARKSIDE PAMR 1000 A1 is the sensible classic in the garden.

Robot mower comparison at a glance

To illustrate and present the differences of the individual models clearly, I have created a simple comparison table. Which mowing robot is the test winner?

When looking at the overall data, the Segway Navimow i105 is clearly the winner in terms of value for money. Its performance is more than sufficient for a regular household. It is solid, reliable, and avoids unnecessary frills.

If you have a bit more budget and value even stronger performance, the Ecovacs GOAT is a really good choice. It works cleverly and pleasantly quietly, almost too well-behaved for its name.

The Kress RTKⁿ is the luxury variant instead. Expensive, yes, but damn stylish. Those who see technology as a status symbol can certainly go for it here.

At Yard Force, one notices that time doesn't stand still. Without smart app control, it feels a bit dated.

And the PARKSIDE with cable remains for purists who still want to feel real manual labor while mowing.
